Matthew Manning

Webb Cason PC
710 Mesquite St.
Corpus Christi , TX 78401

Matt was raised in Austin, Texas by his dad, the pastor of Sweet Home Missionary Church, and his mom, an administrator at Seton Hospital. After graduating from W.C. Akins High School in Austin in 2004, Matt began his studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C. —“HU! You know!” — laser focused on attending law school. During his time in DC, he interned on Capitol Hill and became immersed in politics. His experiences in college and the august legacies of those who went before him at Howard cemented his desire to serve others through legal practice, particularly in the area of civil rights.

In 2009 he entered the University of Toledo College of Law on a full scholarship, where he served as president of the Black Law Student Association and was active in advocacy competitions, completing coursework in civil rights and visiting at the Texas Tech School of Law in his final year.

Matt began his career as a city attorney for Corpus Christi, prosecuting Class C offenses. Within months, he was hired by the Nueces County DA’s Office. There, he caught the attention of Mark Gonzalez, a young lawyer with a thriving defense firm. Mark hired Matt in 2015, and they practiced criminal defense together until 2017, when Mark was elected to be our District Attorney. Naturally, Matt became Mark’s First Assistant District Attorney and Lead Prosecutor. Matt thrived in that position, becoming one of the most venerated attorneys in Corpus Christi and earning the moniker “Manning of the People.”

In December of 2019, Matt left the DA’s office and joined Webb Cason to practice personal injury law. His reputation, enthusiasm, and trial expertise are invaluable, and we are privileged to have him on the team.
