Onome Adejemilua represents public and private enterprises, financial institutions, and private equity and venture capital investors and their portfolio companies in a variety of corporate law issues, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, debt and equity financing, and general corporate matters. She understands her clients’ business needs and collaborates with them to create value during all phases of their transactions, from initial structuring through closing. She has worked on deals ranging from small, privately negotiated transactions to those involving multinational public companies.
Onome also helps entrepreneurs and small businesses succeed, guiding them on how to choose the appropriate business structure, finance deals, navigate commercial contracts, and address governance concerns. She has spoken on these and similar topics to such organizations as the Women’s Center for Entrepreneurship Corporation, furthering its mission to provide the necessary resources for women to start, own, operate, and grow their businesses.
Onome is a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee, and has been appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve on its District Fee Arbitration Committee. She is actively involved in the community, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees and Corporate Secretary for Newark Arts, a nonprofit organization promoting the arts, culture, and arts education in Newark. She is enthusiastically involved in pro bono work and has demonstrated a commitment to public service by providing legal services to asylum applicants, including appearing before the Newark Immigration Court, and to community reintegration programs, enabling individuals with criminal backgrounds to achieve successful reentry following incarceration.
Onome is a 2021 fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) and a 2018 fellow of New Jersey State Bar Association Leadership Academy. She has been recognized in the list of The National Black Lawyers Top 100 since 2015.
Prior to joining McCarter, Onome held internships at the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the enforcement division of the New York Stock Exchange (now FINRA).
