David believes that it is the carrier’s claim, money, and effective representation that inherently entails appropriate litigation to the size and complexity of the matter.

David is focused on representing and advising insurance carriers in matters of coverage and bad faith. He handles a variety of claims in both state and federal court.

Emma Baker

Emma Baker is an Associate in the Chicago, Illinois office of Jackson Lewis P.C. She represents employers in all phases of litigation and before administrative agencies, including the California Civil Rights Department and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Her practice focuses on workplace law matters, including preventive advice and counseling.

Current Practice & Experience

At Jackson Lewis, Emma advises and defends employers in complex employment-related disputes. She regularly assists clients with navigating administrative proceedings and litigation while providing strategic counseling to minimize risk and promote compliance.

Prior Legal Experience

Before joining Jackson Lewis, Emma was an Associate at a prominent San Francisco law firm, where she developed experience in intellectual property and complex litigation in both federal and state courts. Her work included all stages of litigation, such as pretrial pleadings and motion practice, arbitration, and written discovery.

Law School Leadership & Activities

During law school, Emma was appointed by the Dean to serve on the Admissions Committee for the Class of 2024. She held numerous leadership roles, including Vice President of the King Hall Intellectual Property Law Association (KHIPLA) and Vice President of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA). She also served as a Symposium Editor for the Business Law Journal, a Teaching Assistant for 1L Legal Research and Writing I & II, a Research Assistant to Professor Donna Shestowsky, and a member of King Hall’s First-Generation Advocates Board.

Emma externed for the Honorable William J. Murray, Jr. at the Court of Appeal for the Third Appellate District of California. She earned both a Pro Bono Program Certificate and a Public Service Law Program Certificate and served BLSA in various leadership capacities at the local and regional levels. Among her accomplishments was founding and serving as Co-Chair of King Hall’s First Annual Martin Luther King Service Day.

Technology & Diversity Experience

Emma was selected as one of sixteen students nationwide for the inaugural class of the Law in Technology Diversity Collaborative Summer Associate Program. Through this program, she gained cross-company legal experience working both in-house at a technology company and alongside outside counsel, enabling her to better understand and anticipate client needs and processes.

Lakia Shelton

Lakia Shelton is a workers’ compensation attorney in Atlanta with Farah & Farah, where she advocates for injured workers throughout Georgia. Her career path through every level of the legal field—from paralegal to law clerk to attorney—has given her a comprehensive understanding of the workers’ compensation process and the challenges clients face at every stage.

Lakia has played a key role in launching workers’ compensation departments at global law firms. This hands-on experience enables her to anticipate client needs, explain complex legal procedures with clarity, and provide compassionate, confident guidance from start to finish.

Brandon Thomas

Education

Brandon graduated from Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law, where he graduated in the top one-third of his class.

Leadership & Involvement

While in law school, Brandon served as President of the Black Law Students Association and President of the Sports and Entertainment Society.

Legal Experience

After law school, Brandon began practicing in the personal injury field. He has handled a wide range of cases, including wrongful death, premises liability, medical malpractice, and nursing home abuse.

Honors & Recognition

Brandon was named a Top 40 Under 40 lawyer in both 2020 and 2021.

Kwame Mensah

Kwame joined Team Tarle in August 2021 and practices out of Tarle Law’s Austin, Texas office. He was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Professional Experience

While attending the University of Texas School of Law, Kwame completed hundreds of hours of pro bono service, primarily focusing on education advocacy for children with special needs.

Upon graduation, Kwame practiced at an insurance defense firm, where he focused on third-party general liability claims, including transportation matters, premises liability, product liability, bodily injury, and wrongful death cases.

Prior to joining Tarle Law, Kwame practiced Medicaid fraud litigation with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Office of Inspector General.
