
Lovita Tandy is a seasoned litigator and widely recognized authority in labor and employment law. With more than 25 years of experience, she advises clients across a broad range of industries on traditional labor matters, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements and labor covenants, arbitrating grievances, litigating matters before the National Labor Relations Board, and conducting labor-related due diligence in mergers and transactions involving unionized workforces.
Lovita is highly regarded for her skill in defending employers in employment discrimination and retaliation matters involving federal and state anti-discrimination laws. She counsels clients on the complexities of whistleblower protections, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and employment issues involving trade secrets, restrictive covenants, and class and collective actions. Her deep expertise extends to internal investigations, where she is known for interviewing accused individuals and witnesses with professionalism, dignity, and sensitivity while maintaining operational effectiveness.
In addition to her litigation practice, Lovita designs and implements ADA, FLSA, and other employment-related compliance programs and provides employment training for corporations and high-level executives. She serves as a trusted advisor to small, mid-size, and multinational corporations as well as nonprofit organizations. Among her many accomplishments, Lovita became the first African American woman elected partner at King & Spalding. She has also served as a full-time professor at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, where she taught Contracts, Remedies, Transactional Drafting, and Negotiations.
Lovita’s experience includes leading internal investigations, defending Fortune 100 and national companies in EEOC actions, and performing traditional labor and employment diligence in numerous transactions. She has been retained to design and co-deliver advanced investigation training programs for HR professionals and has revamped major corporations’ ADA, FMLA, and leave compliance systems.
Her contributions to the legal field extend beyond her practice. Lovita has authored legal updates, spoken at national and international conferences, and served as a moderator or panelist on topics including sex discrimination, negotiations, diversity in the legal profession, micro-aggressions, and reasonable accommodations. Her work has been featured through organizations such as Law360, Harvard University Women in Business, the American Bar Association, The Sedona Conference, the Society for Human Resource Management, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. She is also co-author of the treatise Unions’ Right to Company Information (Third Edition).
Lovita is deeply committed to community engagement. She is the Past President and a current Board Member of the Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys. She has served on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Taylor Made Foundation and previously co-chaired King & Spalding's StreetLaw partnership with The Coca-Cola Company and Emory Law School. She has also volunteered with the Emory Law Clinic for Veterans.
