
Matthew Mahoney is currently an Attorney Advisor within the Office of Governmental Affairs at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In this role, he assists the USPTO Front Office by monitoring congressional activity, analyzing legislative and policy proposals related to the USPTO and intellectual property (IP) issues, and facilitating communications with federal agencies. Matthew also provides support to the USPTO's AI Working Group, which oversees responsible AI deployment within the USPTO and monitors American AI policy. Additionally, he was part of the team that developed and installed the Patent Fraud Mitigation Unit at the USPTO.
Private Sector Experience
Matthew’s private sector experience includes all phases of pre-litigation diligence and litigation, including case assessment, e-discovery, fact and expert discovery, and trial work. His background in mechanical engineering and business enables him to handle cases spanning a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, semiconductors, computer hardware and software, pharmaceuticals, and audio technology. He has worked on U.S. International Trade Commission investigations, litigation in U.S. District Courts, and post-grant proceedings at the USPTO.
