
Maya Day is a Newark, NJ native and lifelong advocate for justice, storytelling, and sisterhood. Inspired by courtroom TV icons and characters like Maxine Shaw, she always knew she’d become a lawyer, but more importantly, a leader committed to legacy-building.
She was the first in her family to attend boarding school, later earning her B.A. in Criminal Justice from The George Washington University, where she led as President of both the Black Women’s Forum and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Xi Sigma chapter. Maya’s legal journey began at Howard University School of Law, where she sharpened her focus on media, entertainment, and public service.
After law school, Maya began her career in production legal at Bruns, Brennan, Berry, Pikulin and Jacobs before returning to BET Networks as Counsel for unscripted content. She worked across development, live award shows, and BET News.
Today, she serves as Counsel / Manager in Business and Legal AVairs at Netflix, focusing on original stand-up, sketch, and comedy formats. In every space, Maya brings sharp legal insight, cultural fluency, and a passion for creating space for others, always centering legacy, leadership, and sisterhood.
