Books by Black authors — and particularly about race and anti-racism — are in big demand at some Indianapolis bookstores since racial justice protests emerged across the country.
In some cases, books have sold out.
Walton Muyumba, an associate professor of English at Indiana University Bloomington, said that people are turning to literature to try to better understand the current movement.
“If you're wondering what's happening with protests, not just in Indianapolis, but continuing across the country,” he said, “and you're wondering why African Americans and Latinx people, in some places, Asian Americans and indigenous folks, are all marching together, then one place to get answers will be in the history, the nonfiction, the literary fiction, the poetry, the drama of American citizens of color.”
