Additionally, he spent all 3 years of his law school career clerking for the Curry Law Firm, where he primarily focused on criminal defense.

As a black man living in a small southern town, he witnessed the racial disparities of the criminal justice system which ignited his interest in law. Alex fostered a desire to affect change by providing equitable legal representation to the underserved communities. To pursue this purpose, Alex served both Colleton and Charleston counties in his capacity as Assistant Public Defender, During his tenure as Assistant Public Defender, he represented clients on a multitude of criminal charges, from the smallest drug possession to the most serious violent crimes. Alex became a lawyer for one simple reason, to help people and passionately fight for their rights.
