Member Details

Jayla Harvey’s practice focuses on patent litigation and prosecution. Her effective advocacy skills for clients in these practice areas were honed both in her research studies and through various work experiences.

Jayla earned her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Howard University. While at Howard, she worked as a research assistant in a computational biology lab that focused on tracking the evolutionary history of various genetic traits. Through this innovative work, she developed strong research skills and gained an appreciation for the intricacies of complex projects. Jayla now uses her scientific background to understand and discuss the technical aspects of clients’ businesses, from everyday items to medical devices across multiple disciplines.

In addition to her research work, Jayla served as a teaching assistant in several college-level laboratory classes, including microbiology and advanced evolutionary biology. During this time, she learned how to simplify complex scientific concepts, such as statistical genetic analyses, into easy-to-understand terms. Today, she applies this teaching experience to communicate legal and technical issues clearly and effectively to clients, judges, and adversaries.

During law school, Jayla further developed her legal research skills while serving as a legal intern to the Honorable Bahir Kamil, J.S.C. In this role, she gained valuable insight into the inner workings of the judicial system. In her final year of law school, she was a clinical law student in the Intellectual Property Law Clinic at Rutgers Law School, where she advised clients on a variety of intellectual property matters. Her work included conducting trademark and patentability searches, drafting trademark and patent opinion letters, filing trademark applications, and providing copyright guidance.

Jayla is also deeply committed to making intellectual property law more accessible to underrepresented groups. She believes that equitable access to IP protection is essential for fostering innovation and ensuring that diverse voices and ideas are recognized and safeguarded. Through mentorship, community engagement, and pro bono work, Jayla strives to empower individuals and organizations who may otherwise face barriers to protecting their intellectual property.
