Tracey L. Brown is Managing Partner at The Cochran Firm in New York, where she specializes in employment discrimination, civil rights and municipal liability and is National Chair of the Civil Rights Practice Group. Ms. Brown also leads business development, strategic planning, ethics guidance, corporate giving and diversity initiatives at the firm. Prior to joining The Cochran Firm, Ms. Brown was Senior Counsel at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, DC, where she litigated consumer fraud cases, including a $70 million judgment in a case on behalf of consumers who had been victims of Internet credit card fraud.  Ms. Brown also served as a Deputy District Attorney for the County of Los Angeles where she tried more than seventy cases before juries and judges. 

 

A graduate of Boston College and St. John’s University Law School, she is licensed to practice law in New York, California, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.  

 

In addition to her legal work, Ms. Brown is the author of the best-selling book, “The Life and Times of Ron Brown,” published by William Morrow/Harper Collins. The book is a biography of the late U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Ronald H. Brown. 

 

A frequent speaker at legal forums, panels and universities, Ms. Brown is the President of The National Black Lawyers Top 100 and serves on the Board of Directors of the Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development at St. John’s University Law School, the Advisory Board of Ron Brown Scholars, and formerly served on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the National Child Labor Committee. She is active in many civic and philanthropic organizations, including The Links, Inc., The National Trial Lawyers, the Young Achievers Mentoring Program, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and the National Smart Set.  

 

She lives in Harlem with her husband and two children.
