
Samarria grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama. Among a host of UA honors, Samarria says her most treasured honor was being selected as the Chief Justice of the Student Government Association. A recipient of a full fellowship, Samarria is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law and also studied comparative law at the University of Fribourg, in Fribourg, Switzerland. She is licensed to practice law in both Alabama and Mississippi.
Before starting her own law firm, Dunson Group, LLC, Samarria served as the Privacy Officer for the Alabama Department of Public Health for 10.5 years. She also served as an Assistant General Counsel for the agency where she was a primary attorney for the regulation of health care facilities. She was then tasked to create the agency’s first Office of Compliance and Ethics for which she served as the Director. In that role, Samarria oversaw compliance issues for 64 of the state’s county health departments, the state laboratory and the ALL KIDS health plan.
Samarria is certified by the Health Care Compliance Association in both health care compliance and health care privacy compliance.
She is married to Kendall Dunson, a products liability attorney for Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis and Miles, P.C. They have three children.
