Weeya Baysah Young is a first-generation attorney who accredits her legal achievements to organizations that embraced her as a Chicago transplant, by helping her foster a sense of community, advocate for civil rights, and strive to improve the administration of justice. She is grateful for organizations like the Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. and the Chicago Urban League IMPACT Program, as she is a proud alum of the 10th cohort.

She is the Assistant General Counsel, Procurement and Medical Delivery Systems Counsel for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, a 40-billion-dollar agency, where she serves as lead counsel for the agency in procurement and contractual matters.

Weeya previously served in various government roles at the City of Chicago, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. She also worked as a manager at the National Association of Realtors, with a focus on association management, policy, and ethics.

Weeya also proudly serves as the 2024-2025 President of the Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago where she and her board of directors emphasize the importance of supporting its bright future ---law students, taking bold steps in creating programming of relevance to its membership, while striking a balance in all facets of life. Weeya received her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida and her Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School, in Ohio.
