San Antonio Lawyer Uses Voice to Educate Community About Racism

Artessia "Tess" House is a proud San Antonio native. She is using her voice as a lawyer to educate others about racism. “There is a lot that this city has to offer,” said House.

She is a graduate of The Legacy of Educational Excellence High School. Formerly known as Robert E. Lee High School. “I received the most scholarships out of my graduating class.” It was also there House said she experienced different forms of racism.

“One of my white counter parts got up and professed that his dad was a surgeon and that he didn’t come of a lower socioeconomic background. Basically, insinuating that the only reason I received the scholarship had to do with the fact that we were low income. These were scholarships that would require that you come from a lower socioeconomic background. I did not come from a family with a low socioeconomic background. Not only that, I’m the proud daughter of a local San Antonio educator. My mother made me excel academically,” explained House.

She went on to law school at St. Mary’s University. Her dream to become a lawyer started at a young age. However, it wasn't until a life changing moment when she felt even more determined to pursue her career.
