Victim of Auto Accident is Awarded $458,231.20 in Lake County, FL

The case of Sebastian Rawley v. Lake County went to trial in Lake County, Florida on April 17, 2023. Lake County is one of the most conservative jurisdictions in Florida. On February 20, 2020, Plaintiff collided with a Lake County emergency vehicle that had pulled into his path. Plaintiff had a prior accident and subsequent accident with similar injuries. For the subject accident, Plaintiff was seen in the emergency room and only received chiropractic treatment and three injections, his last treatment was around September 2020. Plaintiff argued that he sustained herniations to his thoracic and lumbar spine that were permanent in nature. Plaintiff withdrew his future medical and wage loss claim and proceeded on past medical expenses, as well as past and future pain and suffering damages due to permanent injuries caused by the subject accident (i.e., disk herniations at T3-4, T7-8 and L5-S1). Plaintiff's total medical bills were $45,726.20. Offers to resolve the case before trial were less than $60,000.00 After a four-day trail and 3 hours of deliberation the jury returned a verdict on favor of Plaintiff of $458,231.20 (past meds -$45,726.20; past pain and suffering - $23,350.00 and future pain and suffering - $389,155.00).
