CA School District Settles for $13M Over Death of Mona Rodriguez

On September 27, 2021, while on video, Eddie Gonzalez, a School Safety Officer for the Long Beach Unified School District, shot into a moving car in which Mona Rodriguez was a passenger. The shooting itself was in violation of the Long Beach Unified Use of Force Policy that stated officers could not shoot into a moving vehicle and could not shoot at fleeing suspects. Mona was rushed to the hospital where she remained on life support until September 29, 2021 when she was declared dead. Mona was survived by her mother and her son, who was 5 months old at the time of her death.

Attorneys Robin Perry, Arnoldo Casillas, Luis Carrillo, and Michael Carrillo represented the plaintiffs in this wrongful death by police negligence case that has settled for $13 Million.
