The City of Richmond, California
is currently conducting a statewide recruitment effort for aspiring
professionals to join the City of Richmond’s legal team in the capacity of
Assistant City Attorney and/or Deputy City Attorney. The Assistant City
Attorney and the Deputy City Attorney are both at-will positions, serving at
the pleasure of the newly appointed City Attorney, Teresa Stricker. The
position of Assistant City Attorney is distinguished by increased
responsibilities from the Deputy City Attorney and the greater degree of
independence and decision-making abilities, as well as the difficulty and
complexity of work performed. Both positions, to varying degrees, provide civil
legal services on a wide variety of legal matters including representing the
City in court and providing legal advice to the City Manager, City Council, and
all City departments, boards, and commissions. Additionally, the Assistant City
Attorney position oversees a specific program area of the legal department.
Both positions require graduation
from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or the equivalent.
Active membership in the State Bar of California and ability to gain admission
to practice law in the United States District Court for the Northern District
of California is required at time of submittal. For the Assistant City
Attorney, 4 years of experience performing duties comparable to those of a
Deputy City Attorney is required. For the Deputy City Attorney, 2 years of experience
practicing law is required.
