J.D. Packwood, Sole Practitioner and Owner of J.D. Packwood, Jr., Attorney-At-Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
With more than 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Packwood has been a sole practitioner and the owner of J.D. Packwood, Jr., Attorney-At-Law since 2004. Prior to establishing this firm, he was an attorney and the director of the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 1972 to 2014.
Mr. Packwood first pursued an education with Louisiana State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in government in 1966. He then joined the Howard University School of Law, completing a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1969. He later continued his studies with the Conservative Theological University, earning a Master of Arts in biblical studies in 2018. He has been admitted to practice law in the states of Florida, Virginia and Nebraska, as well as the District of Columbia.
Mr. Packwood was inspired to pursue a career in the field from an early age, having learned of the murder of Emmet Till and becoming very upset about it. He was galvanized by a desire to try to improve society where he could. Having come from a modest family, he had difficulty funding his education at first, and he also found that many in his community had a negative opinion of lawyers. He resolved to change all of that, and was the valedictorian of his high school class, earning many scholarships to attend college.
In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Packwood has been an active member of his community. He has been ordained as a minister, and he credits his faith for his success. He is a member of the Florida Bar Association, the DC Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, and the Nebraska Bar Association. He is also a renowned poet, having published poetry books and the poem “Born to Write.”
