The State Bar of Michigan named Percy J. Langster, the nation’s first elected Black prosecuting attorney, as the 44th Michigan Legal Milestone.
Langster was honored during the Michigan Legal Milestone celebration on Aug. 25 at the Yates Township Hall in Idlewild. A bronze plaque commemorating Langster’s life and legacy will be permanently placed at the Lake County Courthouse in Baldwin.
Author and historian Nancy Vogl, who has written about the history of Idlewild, discovered Percy Langster’s achievement while researching her latest project, a screenplay about Idlewild, and finding that there were few who knew about Langster, brought him to the attention of the Michigan Legal Milestone committee.
