The Team
Legal – Corporate Services, COO - Admin
Position Reports to Managing Deputy Director - Legal
Your Role
This role primarily supports all areas of the Legal Team’s corporate services and enterprise operations for the foundation and its affiliated entities, including assistance with legal and regulatory compliance matters and related programs, litigation and alternative dispute resolution, policies, training, internal and external communications, compliance tracking, file maintenance, and assisting with special projects.
The Senior Paralegal will also support the Legal Team in the following subject matter areas: anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, information security, insider trading, board service, employment law, information governance and records management, eDiscovery, and state and regional office business registrations. This role is conducted under the supervision of an attorney.
What You’ll Do
Support the foundation’s conflict of interest database and certification tracking.
Conduct initial review of compliance and ethics matters and escalate issues to legal counsel as appropriate.
On short notice, work closely with Legal Team, outside counsel, and a wide range of foundation staff to respond to FOIA-related requests, subpoenas, and other document discovery requests.
Support foundation Legal Team and information technology staff to comply with litigation hold requirements.
Manage compliance with regulatory filings in states and regional jurisdictions where the foundation or its subsidiaries have a presence, employ remote workers, or engage in regulated business activities.
Handle confidential or otherwise sensitive information.
Produce internal communication materials associated with Legal Team projects and presentations.
Assist in coordinating and updating Legal Team workflow activity, projects, and knowledge management system.
Create, update, and/or maintain accessible and organized electronic files and records.
Work with other members of the Legal team, law firm, foundation, and affiliate staff as required.
Your Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
A minimum of 5+ years of work experience is required as a paralegal in a law firm, government agency, or a complex and fast-paced organization, interacting with high-level internal and external contacts.
Background in SharePoint-based records/knowledge management, litigation, and eDiscovery strongly preferred. Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Strong ability to work both independently and as a team player in a collaborative environment that moves work toward the achievement of goals.
High level of interpersonal skills to develop and maintain strong relationships, establish trust, and treat others with dignity and respect.
Ability to handle sensitive, confidential, and urgent matters with composure, diplomacy, and good judgment. Flexible, organized, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Makes efficient use of time, sets high work standards, is highly productive, prepared, and detail-oriented. Consistently follows through with commitments and meets deadlines.
Creative problem-solving and ability to juggle multiple and competing tasks and rapidly changing priorities and demands.
Ability to research issues, conduct analysis and develop efficient processes and creative solutions to problems.
