Description:
This position is located in the Legal Division, Litigation
Branch, Commercial Litigation Unit. The Commercial Litigation Unit is
responsible for providing legal advice and conducting nationwide litigation on
resolution and receivership issues, including real estate, bankruptcy,
subsidiary, and general litigation.
The FDIC offers position-specific telework options. This

Duties:
- Takes the lead on and supervises negotiation and
consummation of settlements in bankruptcy and commercial cases.
- Supervises and maintains close communication
with outside counsel to ensure compliance with the Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation (FDIC) Outside Counsel Desk book and applicable directives, and
consistency and accuracy of substantive and procedural positions and briefs
pending before courts nationwide, both state and federal, on behalf of or
against the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in any capacity.
- Oversees and/or plans and executes all aspects
of assigned bankruptcy and commercial litigation including, preparation of
complaints, answers, motions, supporting memoranda, and other pleadings;
Pretrial discovery, including depositions, interrogatories, requests for
admissions, motions, and responses to requests by opposing parties.
- Identifies legal issues related to bankruptcy
and civil litigation, and engages in or directs legal research on these issues.
Litigation includes cases designated as protracted and/or involving novel and
legal issues, or involving large dollar amounts.
- Responsible for identifying and managing
bankruptcy and commercial legal issues and matters requiring a uniform,
national resolution, including those that arise from the Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation (FDIC) role as receiver, liquidator, or conservator of
failed financial institutions.
Qualifications:
- Specialized experience is experience in
commercial litigation practice, which includes litigating all aspects of
appeals; providing legal analysis, advice, and guidance; and analyzing legal
and litigation issues to propose solutions orally and in writing. To qualify,
applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience
equivalent to at least the CG/GS-13 grade level or above in the Federal
service.
- Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private
or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including
volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps,
AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic,
religious spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build
critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training
and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive
credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
- Active Membership in good standing of the bar of
at least one state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- J.D. or LL.B Degree required.
