CLINICAL FELLOW

Expected Start Date and Duration: Start date: Summer 2024 (flexible); Duration: The fellowship is expected to last for 2 years from anticipated start date.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Fellows work under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC) and with the FLPC Director, staff, and students on a broad range of international, federal, state, and local food policy projects. The Fellow position offers ample opportunity for professional development through opportunities to enhance research, writing, and oral advocacy, developing expertise in particular issue areas, becoming familiar with a broad range of policy advocacy strategies, educating and mentoring law students, and working closely with outside partners and other leaders in the food law and policy field. FLPC advances a cross-sector, multi-disciplinary, and inclusive approach to its work, with projects and collaborations that fall within one or more of FLPC’s four initiative areas: Food Waste and Food Recovery, Food Access and Nutrition, Climate and Sustainability, and Food System Justice.
The Clinical Fellow will play an important role in supporting FLPC’s on-going and future projects. The Fellow’s work will entail, but is not limited to:
• Serving as a team member or lead attorney on one or several FLPC projects (with a focus in the Food Waste and Food Recovery portfolio), which includes managing and directing the day-to-day project work;
• Managing client and partner relationships on the projects that the Fellow oversees, including partnerships with community-based organizations and coalitions that include impacted community members;
• Working closely with students on the projects that the Fellow oversees and supporting student development in skills including problem-solving, law and policy analysis, research and writing, oral communication, working with diverse clients and colleagues, creating an inclusive and collaborative environment, time and project management, and leadership;
• Assisting with development of teaching materials for the classroom courses offered in conjunction with the Clinic;
• Delivering talks and trainings to clients, partners, and policymakers at local and national conferences and events;
• Undertaking various administrative tasks within the Clinic, including event planning, communications, development, student outreach, and other tasks that arise;
• Helping to set and implement the vision for the ongoing development and success of the Clinic; and
• Performing other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

SALARY:
Compensation for the fellowship (which includes salary and benefits) is competitive with other public interest fellowships. Base fellowship salary amount (not including benefits) is $64,000 for the first year and $66,000 for the second year.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
• Some travel may be required.
• The clinical fellowship is a two-year appointment from start date. The fellowship is expected to start in August 2024.
• FLPC’s office is located on the Harvard Law School campus in Cambridge, MA. The fellowship work is expected to be in-person primarily in the office with flexibility for some remote work.
• Clinical Fellows may be assigned to workspaces in a shared or partially-open office, such as a carrel.
