Asset Management Legal Counsel -Remote
Provide legal advice and recommendations to business clients and to executives regarding matters of complexity which have or may have significant risk to business activities and operations to ensure that company affairs are conducted within the framework of the law and consistent with sound business practices and ethics.
The Asset Management Counsel position provides legal services on a variety of matters in support of Principal’s global asset management business. The position involves working as part of a team to advise on legal and regulatory matters applicable to investment advisers, distribution of investment advisory services and products and related agreements, investment transactions and related matters, all in collaboration with colleagues globally.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, timely, and sound legal advice and recommendations to business unit clients and to executives regarding matters of complexity which have or may have significant risk to business activities and operations.
- Applies knowledge of one or more legal specialties with sound business acumen and knowledge of the business goals and objectives as they relate to the matter at hand.
- May provide informal leadership to less experienced attorneys and/or paralegal staff which includes providing direction for the development of required work products or in how to respond to business inquiries, providing performance feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
Qualifications
- Requires JD with minimum of 7 years of experience supporting asset manager at a financial services firm and/or law firm.
- Experience with private investment structures, private funds and support for derivatives trading preferred.
- Must be admitted to practice in the state employed within twelve months of hire.
- Requires knowledge of the relevant area of law and its application.
- Must be able to work as a member of a team and independently on a self-motivated basis.
- Requires superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to apply knowledge of the law to make sound judgments, communicate, and interact with others in a professional manner.
- Informal leadership experience is preferred.
- Some travel may be required
