Tharrington Smith, LLP, is seeking an experienced civil
litigator to join its Education Law practice in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tharrington Smith was founded in
1964 and has been representing public schools in North Carolina since 1978. Our
Education Law practice group, the largest of its kind in the state with 19
attorneys, serves as general counsel to numerous K-12 public school systems
across North Carolina. We represent school systems in litigation before state
and federal courts and administrative tribunals. Our cases cover a wide variety
of areas of law, including employment, civil rights, constitutional claims,
personal injury, and contract disputes. Our attorneys work directly with
elected boards of education and school system administrators to investigate and
analyze claims, resolve claims when possible, and zealously represent our
clients in court when necessary. At Tharrington Smith we work together as a
team to provide excellent legal service, and we pride ourselves in developing
and retaining strong and lasting relationships with our clients, some of whom
we have represented for decades.
The ideal candidate will have at least three years’
experience litigating in state and federal court, including independently
taking and defending depositions, drafting pleadings, and arguing motions. The
job requires excellent legal writing and advocacy skills, strong people skills,
the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, the ability to
multitask, and an interest in representing public entities. The job is
located in the Triangle region of North Carolina and requires in-state
travel. Candidates should be licensed in North Carolina or eligible for
