Position Summary

This
position renders legal advice and representation to the statewide staff of the
Department of Transportation in the performance of their job duties. Provide
professional legal services to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Executive
Assistant, Division Administrators. Collaborate with Attorney General, District
Attorneys and other governmental agencies and regulatory bodies on all matters
affecting the operation of the department.


Candidates must be
licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin prior to the application
deadline.

Qualified applicants will have experience with all
the following:

• Conducting legal research and making determinations based
on legal research in the areas of contracts, administrative law, government
grants, budgets, claims, statutory interpretation.
• Preparing formal legal documents, such as contracts, leases, pleadings,
affidavits or legal briefs.
• Providing legal representation in the areas of contracts, administrative
law, government grants, budgets, claims, statutory interpretation.
• Drafting, reviewing or revising law, legal policy, or administrative
rules.


In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants
will have experience with one or more of the following:

• Providing legal representation in the areas of governmental
operations and administration.
• Administering or applying transportation policies and programs.
• Preparing and defending claims including briefing, witness testimony,
cross-examination, and argument for court or administrative hearings.
• Representation of clients in a fast-paced time sensitive environment.

Job Details

Salary Information This position is in schedule-range (09-75) with an annual salary of $70,720 - $92,955, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
