Nana-Kwabena Abrefah helps clients handle privacy and data security matters. Nana-Kwabena is experienced in researching privacy legislation and technology law and policy. He focuses on advising clients regarding state consumer privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA), and Connecticut Act Concerning Personal Data Privacy and Online Monitoring (CTPA). He is particularly skilled at aligning state law requirements to help clients develop streamlined and effective compliance programs and documentation.
Nana-Kwabena also assists clients in understanding and complying with other state, federal, and international laws and regulations, including state data breach notification laws, the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) unfairness and deception authority, and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). He supports clients’ advocacy efforts before state legislatures and agencies, Congress, and federal regulators, including the FTC.
During law school, Nana-Kwabena served as a student advocate in the Federal Legislation Clinic, where he testified before the Maryland Senate, advanced the legislative and policy agenda of the clinic’s clients, and co-developed a legislative proposal regarding an emerging technology.
