Takenya Nixon is an Assistant Public Defender with the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender. She is currently assigned to the Felony Trial Division located at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse otherwise known as 26th and California. She is responsible for providing legal representation to people arrested and charged with felony offenses. This representation includes advocating for reasonable bonds, negotiating plea agreements if her client makes that request, investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of her clients, interviewing witnesses, and representing her clients at trial.

Takenya has been an Assistant Public Defender for over 14 years. Her entire legal career has been with the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender. She has dedicated her career to the fight for fairness and equality for all within the criminal justice system. Takenya believes it is her personal responsibility to be the voice for the voiceless. Takenya received both her BA in Political Science and JD from the University of Toledo.
