Whitnee Goins is an Assistant United States Attorney (Criminal Division) in the Eastern District of California for the United States Department of Justice. She is currently assigned to the Special Prosecutions Unit, where she investigates and prosecutes a wide variety of federal crimes, including white collar crimes, money laundering, arson, human trafficking, child exploitation and the litigation of bank fraud, wire fraud and mail fraud. Prior to joining the United States Department of Justice, she served as a Deputy District Attorney for almost seven years at the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office in the Bay Area, California. At the District Attorney’s office, she served as a supervisor, where she trained and provided guidance to new attorneys in all aspects of litigation. This included training in trial advocacy (voir dire, opening statements, direct examination, cross examination, and closing arguments). Prior to supervising, she handled felony cases and conducted several jury trials to verdict as sole counsel.
Whitnee attended Spelman College, where she majored in Sociology and earned honors in the school’s mock trial program. Whitnee graduated from Howard University School of Law in 2015, where she earned the Henry White Edgerton Civil Rights Scholarship, competed on the school’s National Moot Court Team, and served as a judicial extern at the First District Court of Appeal in California.
